Lets go to Luckenbach, Texas

With Waylon and Willie fans.

As luck would have it, early season work has me waiting for fires in Fredericksburg, TX which just so happens to be about a 15 minute drive from the super ultra legendary, postage stamp sized town of Luckenbach. If you didn’t already know, it’s famously easy going, charming as can be and the dream destination for deep rooted country music fans trying to connect with musical hero legends like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.

I was able to spend an afternoon in Luckenbach during this assignment. My  company was excellent and inspiring; a huge country music fan and super versed on the local lore, so that made it even better. We initially had gone to “buy the hat” and grab a burger, but as we were waiting for our food, mics started to come alive and guitars and drums started getting worked. The easy afternoon became even easier and we were able to sit and enjoy a music festival with a focus on singer/songwriter talent.

The town has cats. Which may really be my favorite part. Cats in the windows, cats sleeping on benches, cats begging for pets. Cats at the registers when you’re buying postcards… 🥹

I went back by myself a couple of nights later and heard a cat screaming their head off in the dance hall. He was lucky I found him because the only guy with keys to let him out was driving away for the night when I waved him down. I named him Mewsten and it seriously took me an hour to get the courage to break away from him.

Not every assignments is as “culturally-rich” as this one. Sometimes we spend a month or two in a literal one horse town, giving way to rolling tumbleweeds and grabbing dinner at the local cantina (the only restaurant in town) for the 22nd time in a row.

Luckenbach made me a country music fan again. This successful life I’m livin’ definitely has its ups and downs, but if there is one thing I can agree with, life is moving too fast. It’s time to get back to the basics of love.

(Dont hate me)
