This isn’t a blog…
It’s a journal 🙂
Welcome back to chelseasjourneytobecomingapilothistorian.com. I’m currently sitting at an FBO (which is essentially an airplane gas station with couches for pilots and passengers) in Fredericksburg, Texas, ready to run out to the airplane if we get a fire dispatch.
Fredericksburg is a neat place – it’s fairly central in terms of where it sits in Texas, but it’s all hilly and surrounded by vineyards and wineries. It was settled by German pioneers in 1846 and continues to be dominated by schnitzel, beer and really cool, very old, German style buildings. As far as air attack assignments go, this one takes the German Chocolate Cake 🙂 Despite it being higher and a little less desert-y than most of this state, it burns too so we are happy to be here in the event that we’re needed.
I’ve had quite a bit of time to myself this off-season which led to an above normal amount of soul searching. The amount of mental and physical energy it took for me to get to this point in my flying career was no small task, but now that I’m here and going into my 5th season I’m feeling like I’ve got some room in my tiny little brain to keep growing in areas I’ve always dreamt about. I used to love drawing and writing, but that’s fallen off quite a bit. Lately, I have almost no inspiration to pick up a pen and paper or doodle on my iPad. Instead, I’ve found myself more and more drawn to photography – and while my dumb little iPhone does a pretty good job, I feel like I’m only a quarter of the way there. My hope is that this website inspires me to get off of my phone and more hands-on with my gazillion dollar Nikon and fancy lenses. It is so intimidating, but I’m so over looking at it on my shelf collecting dust.
